Honduras - Ana Suyapa Munoz

Ana Suyapa Muñoz and her husband embarked on their coffee journey, planting their first farm plot in 2015. Ana Suyapa Muñoz inherited the plot from her parents, who had previously used it for corn cultivation. Their initial 0.7-hectare venture yielded immediate profits, which the couple reinvested in the plot, doubling their cultivated area after just one season.

Shortly after, a portion of their plot was damaged by rust disease. However, Ana and her husband faced this challenge with resiliency and determination, embracing the opportunity to try something new. They decided to cultivate Parainema and IHCAFE 90 varieties. These varieties are well-adapted to medium altitudes, resistant to coffee leaf rust and some nematodes. Ultimately, the decision proved to be a fruitful investment.

Ana Suyapa Muñoz and her husband began working with Becamo in 2021, primarily with conventional lots. Becamo’s technician offered them support through the Unit for Sustainable Services to Producers (USSP) technical assistance program, where they learned about producing semi-washed and prolonged fermentation coffees. Refining and diversifying their processing methods allowed them to earn additional premiums for their coffees.
